Foundation Walk 2005Congratulations to the Richmond Hill Club on a well-planned and organised on a District 7070 Walk for Rotary Foundation on 09/11/2005. This was my first Foundation Walk but I was very pleased with the personal guided tours through some of the Richmond Hill Historical sites and points of interest. Many highlights included projects sponsored by Rotary, including the "Meditation" sculpture in the Richmond Hill Central Library, the Millenium Garden at Mill Pond and the Rotary Wheel Sundial in the Central Library parkette. We also visited the Mill Pond Gallery where we saw the works of local artists. Mill Pond is a very attractive park and is somewhere that you would not see when you are zooming through Richmond Hill on the main thoroughfares. The highlight of the walk has to be the World Trade Center Memorial mockup. This is a a full height working model of massive waterfall that will be installed at the World Trade Center in memory of those who perished in the collapse of the towers. It seemed extremely appropriate given the date of the walk is four years after 9/11. The lunch entrees were delicious as was the cake and fresh fruit. The buffet table was kept well stocked and set up to provide efficient flow of people past it. Next years walk will be at Campbellford. I'm already looking forward to it.
