From the RC of North Scarborough:
This was a special program that introduced all those attending to the
accomplishments of
the 6 successful applicants for our 9th annual presentation of the Paul Harris
Scholarships
awarded as a joint program of both our club and the Agincourt club.
Emmanuel explained that each of
the students selected will receive $2,000 to assist them in their post secondary
studies.
Peter Masson, acting as program chair for the evening invited each student to
introduce
their family members and their teacher guests who were able to attend. Rosemary
Merrall
of the RC of Agincourt outlined the criteria that were used to select these
students from the 12
applications that were received this year. Consistent leadership in the
student's various
communities: academic, amateur sport, and voluntary community service.
Scholarship
that should reflect a broad field of knowledge, and that financial
assistance would be
needed for the student to advance his/her studies.
Dhanni Ramdeen then briefly explained the history of Rotary now in its 101st
year since
being founded in Chicago by the lonely lawyer Paul Harris. To-day, Rotary
has grown to
1.2 million members in 32,000 clubs in 200 countries. All united in the ideal of
service to
help build goodwill and peace throughout the world. We have named our
scholarship
program in honour of our founder Paul Harris.
The two club presidents then proceeded to present a certificate to each student,
as they
were introduced by members of the selection committee.
